On October 26th, Binghamton Running Club traveled to DCR Great Brook Farm State Park in Massachusetts to compete at the NIRCA Cross Country Northeast Regional. Despite the competition being stiff, our team established ourselves as a force to be reckoned with.
The men had an excellent showing, placing 3rd out of 17 teams in the 8k. Sophomore Matthew Jacob took home the gold medal, running an outstanding 25:39.7. Third year student Mike Totaro also had an impressive showing, running 27:39.4 and placing 12th overall. Sophomore Edward Soriano was less than ten seconds behind (27:48.4). Sophomore Brian Curtis (28:12.3) and senior Connor Fitzpatrick (28:16.4) were also scoring members, and rounding out the top seven were sophomore Brian Egan (28:21.1) and junior Jack Murphy (28:52.8). Thanks to the hard work of our team members, the top seven have the opportunity to race in the championship race at NIRCA Nationals this coming weekend. The women also had a great day, placing 10th as a team in the 6k. Sophomore Sarah Vener managed to snag herself a spot in the top 10, running a speedy 24:53.9. Junior Claire Ashton was not far behind with a 25:14.8, placing fifteenth overall. Both Sarah and Claire's impressive performances qualified them for the championship race at NIRCA Nationals this coming weekend. Other noteworthy performances came from sophomores Alexa Mosca (28:12.6) and Sara Chazik (28:52.3). Rounding out the team's top seven were junior Cara Dolan (31:50.6), junior Sandra Re (32:04.7), and sophomore Julianna Moses (33:16.4). Complete results can be found in the "Race Schedule" tab. We'd like to wish good luck to all our runners competing at NIRCA Nationals on Saturday!
