During the track and field portion of nationals, BRC really brought their A game. Fellow freshman Brian Egan was not far behind, running 4:16.80 and placing 44th overall. In the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, sophomore Dylan Mitlof ran 11:02.21, placing 29th overall. In the Women's 5000 Meter Run, freshman Sarah Vener ran 20:22.21. Senior Megan Hannahan ran a personal best in the 1500 Meter Run, hitting 5:55.62 and placing 89th overall. Our competitors in the half marathon didn't disappoint, either. Junior Jasper Suhr ran his first ever half marathon with an outstanding 1:20:47, placing 24th in the men's race. Senior Mark Richter was not far behind, 1:25:53 and placing 48th. In the women's race, junior Chloe Peer ran 1:36:08, placing 12th. Senior Megan Doyle also had an excellent race, running 1:42:57 and placing 33rd. Binghamton Running Club also hosted our own race on SUNY Binghamton's campus, the Binghamton Banana Relays. Whether it was in the standard events (ranging from the 200 Meter Dash to the 5000 Meter Run) or the novelty ones (Banana 400 Meter Dash of Chocolate Milk Mile), our team never failed to run well and, just importantly, have a good time doing so. Among eight teams, the men managed to place first, beating the second place team by 108 points. Freshman Matthew Jacob managed to place first in two events, with a 16:06.7 in the 5000 Meter Run and a 4:40.1 in the 1600 Meter Run, as well as second place in the 800 Meter Run with 2:08.9. In the 1600 Meter Run, freshman Brian Egan finished 3rd overall, running 4:42.4. A BRC member also took the gold in the 800 Meter Run, with sophomore Jack Murphy hitting 2:04.5. That was not the end of BRC's victories on the male side, however. Senior Tanner Kurtul won the Banana 400 Meter Dash, an event in which runners must eat an entire banana while also completing a 400. Just completing it is a difficult feat, but completing it in 56.55 as Kurtul did is truly remarkable. Senior Bailey Choy won the standard 400 Meter Dash, running 60.80. Among eight teams, the women placed second. BRC alumna Erika Frees placed third in the 5000 Meter Run, hitting a speedy 20:42.1. Senior Megan Hannahan came back later in the meet to snag silver in the Chocolate Milk Mile, an event in which runners must chug an entire cup of chocolate milk before running each of the four laps required to do a mile. She not only managed to complete it without vomiting, but also ran a respectable 9:03. In the plank-off, sophomore Sandra Re planked the longest of all the female competitors, holding the position for 2:55 before dropping. Senior Jessica Gallery got a close second, planking for 2:50. For complete results of both races, go to the "Race Schedule" tab. BRC would also like to both wish good luck and thank our senior members who graduated this past weekend.
