On Sunday, February 10th, members of BRC traveled to Penn State University for the Happy Valley Invitational, our first meet of the indoor season. Everyone started off the season strong, with many of our runners having impressive performances.
Seniors Tanner Kurtul and Bailey Choy both competed in the 400 Meter Dash, running 55.73 and 56.73 respectively. In the 800 Meter Run, freshmen Owen Klein and Danny Peterson (his first meet in a BRC uniform) continued the trend of fast performances and ran 2:11.51 and 2:15.86 respectively. Quick race times were not limited to the boys. Senior Jessica Gallery ran a 14.12 in the 60 Meter Hurdles, despite it being her first time ever competing in that event. Also, senior Megan Hannahan also had a strong season opener in the One Mile Run, finishing in 6:27.43. Senior Megan Doyle crossed the line in 11:59.54 for the 3000 Meter Run, an impressive start to her last semester with BRC. BRC wasn't just speedy in its individual performances, but also proved the power of teamwork in its relays. The boys ran a 4x400m Relay, consisting of Bailey Choy, Owen Klein, Danny Peterson, and Tanner Kurtul; they finished in 3:49.98, finishing first in their heat. The girls ran a Distance Medley Relay, finishing in 16:52.74; the team had members Jessica Gallery, Maeve Kelly, Sandra Re, and Sarah Vener running. If this meet is any indicator, Binghamton Running Club is going to have an excellent indoor season. We'd like to wish good luck to all of our runners competing at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island on February 23rd.
