New Member FAQ
How often does running club meet?
We meet Monday-Friday at 4:30, rain or shine, or snow or blizzard. As of now, we meet in App 111, which is at the back of the ground floor of Mountainviews dining hall (See map at bottom). Some members meet on the weekends to run, but these are not official practices.
Do I have to come to practice?
No! All of our practices are completely optional. You can come to practice once a week or 5 times a week. If you have class at the same time as practice, that is totally fine! You can still be apart of our club and come when it fits into your schedule.
How do practices work?
When you come to practice, everyone will find a group of people to run with depending on pace and how far you want to run. Generally, runs range from 3-8 miles and sometimes include track workouts. You're free to run whatever you want at practice, there is no set training schedule, although some members follow training plans. We aim to start our runs at 4:45, and usually finish running between 5:15 and 6:00. If you have a bag, you can leave it in someones car during the run.

How competitive is running club?
Our club is both competitive and recreational. Some members follow training plans and compete all year long, while others come to run for fun or to get in shape. All meets and practices are optional, so it is up to you how much/little you want to race. Although our club has a very fun and relaxed atmosphere, we do have very dedicated and talented members. Our mens team has won the Northeast Regional cross country meet twice (2015 and 2016), and last year one male and one female finished top 10 in the half marathon at NIRCA Track Nationals.
What is the racing schedule like?
In the fall we compete in mostly cross country races. We host a cross country meet and attend 3-4 other meets. In the Spring, we compete in 2-3 indoor track meets, 2-3 outdoor meets, host our own outdoor track meet (Banana Relays) and participate in a few local road races.

I'm a sprinter, can I still join?
Yes! We compete in a bunch of track meets in the spring with many short distance events. You can wait til the Spring to run with us, or feel free to come to practice during the Fall as well, even if you don't want to compete in cross country races.
What is NIRCA?
NIRCA is the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association. It's basically the governing body of all running clubs and facilitates communication and competition among the clubs. In the fall, we attend NIRCA Regionals, where we compete against other Northeast teams, and NIRCA Nationals, where we compete against teams from all over the country. In the Spring, we attend NIRCA Track Nationals, which consists of track events and a half marathon! Once again, all meets are optional and you don't need to compete in NIRCA meets to join our club.
Is this a social club?
Yes! Besides running together, we have movie nights, pasta parties, team dinners and all sorts of other social events. Our team is very close and many members have found their best friends by joining!
How do I join?
At the beginning of the semester, you will need to fill out a B-engaged form, which will be posted here and on our Facebook page. Other than that, show up to practice whenever you'd like!
