On October 27th, Binghamton Running Club traveled to the Hudson Valley Sportsdome to compete in the NIRCA Cross Country Northeast Regionals. The conditions were far from ideal; the race happened in the midst a nor'easter, providing plenty of rain and temperatures as low as thirty-four degrees. Despite the mudslide of a course, BRC did extremely well and both the men and women have a lot to be proud of.
The men's team placed third overall in the 8k, qualifying the team to run in the championship race at the NIRCA Cross Country National Championships; three runners even managed to place in the top ten. Sophomore Mike Totaro led the team with a fast 28:51.14, placing second overall. Freshman Matthew Jacob was not far behind, running 29:21.43 and placing fifth overall. Sophomore Jack Murphy also had a great race, running 29:42.91 and placing tenth overall. Other impressive finishers included graduate student Zachary Malik (30:50.84) and freshman Edward Soriano (31:22.54). Junior Connor Fitzpatrick (31:34.81) and freshman Brian Egan (31:57.58) rounded out the team's top 7. The women placed eighth overall in the 6k and the entire team persevered through a trail that sometimes resembled a slip n' slide more than a cross country course. Freshman Sarah Vener made the top ten with an outstanding 27:33.73, placing fifth overall. Senior Megan Doyle also ran very well, running 31:04.17 and placing thirty-sixth overall. Other strong finishers included senior Megan Hannahan (31:19.49) and sophomore Maya Mualem (32:25.14). Rounding out the top seven were freshman Sara Chazik (33:22.43), senior Alexandra DeSantis (34:34.91), and freshman Tessa Clark (36:51.30). For complete results, check the "Race Schedule" tab.
